Religious School

The Jewish Community of Japan offers regular education mornings for students from ages 4 through B’nai Mitzvah. We offer a monthly Tot and Parent program to introduce Jewish holidays to children ages 2 to 4. Our programs are offered through a community-based school with members of the community serving as teachers, assistant teachers, curriculum specialists, etc. We promote an egalitarian philosophy where girls and boys participate equally in religious activities and services. Our aim is to provide all children in our community with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for future Jewish living, study and growth.
We encourage active participation in Jewish community life and educate our children in the areas of Jewish values, Mitzvot, Torah Study, Hebrew reading, prayer, knowledge and concern for Israel, and identity and concern for the Jewish People.
Our students and teachers reflect the diversity of our international community. Classes are taught in English.

The ReligiousSchool follows the yearly calendar of international schools which begins at the end of August and ends at the beginning of June. Classes are from 9:30 until 12:30. In addition, B’nai Mitzvah students meet for an additional class on Wednesday afternoons. This class emphasizes T’fillah practice as well as a B’nai Mitzvah class devoted to Mitzvot and responsibility. B’nai Mitzvah students regularly participate in Shabbat morning services.

We encourage families to be active members of the school and join in Family Shabbat services, holiday services and parties, Hebrew study and more.
